‘La Chimere’, The name, meaning ‘The Dream’.

This grand old farmhouse and charming detached gite have a wealth of comfort charm and hospitality to offer guests.
Having many original features including the generations of barn owls nesting in parts of the roof, providing a fascinating show flying around the grounds most evenings after dusk.

La Chimere is situated in the hamlet of Chaignepain with its pretty country walks and dazzling displays of sunflowers during late July early August.

Ten minutes away by car is the famous and ancient bustling market town of Melle with its weekly market, historic Silver Mines, churches, arboretum, cafés shops and restaurants.

This region is blessed with a microclimate giving us the second highest number of sunshine hours in France. Temperatures can reach 40c during the summer months.

Ideal for a holiday soaking up the rays or exploring the many attractions and beauty spots the area has to offer.

Four acres of parkland surround the house where guests are welcome to enjoy a lazy afternoon picnic perhaps watching the rich variety of butterflies and birds including woodpeckers and hoopoes that gather with our five free-range hens.

Later in the season gather your fill of chestnuts from the ten trees heavy with fruit. Or the young ones may prefer to rummage amongst the leaves and find themselves a prize winning conker for future contests.

If you just want to chill and recoup or maybe take a dip in the 18ft diameter splash pool you are very welcome.
Perhaps later amble across the road to the local Routier restaurant where for the princely sum of 11 euros you can enjoy a five course “Plat de Jour” including wine.
For the more energetic days out include Futurscope, Cognac, Sainte, La Rochelle and many more all within an hour by car.
